Kona Coffee
Forbes: “Top 10 Coffees in the World”

BEST COFFEE: KOA PLANTATION Saying you’ve had a bad cup of Kona coffee is like saying you’ve seen snow in the Caribbean. This stuff is wonderfully smooth and its lack of a bitter aftertaste makes you think nothing of having that second cup…or third. Just don’t get fooled into buying “Kona blends” that sometimes combine the price tag of the real thing with less than stellar-quality beans from other sources. The genuine article is grown on the Big Island, home of volcanic soil, high elevation and abundant morning sunshine. For the freshest coffee experiences, order from the Koa Plantation in Captain Cook; it’s a family-run operation, situated on the leeward side of Mauna Loa, that will ship its peaberry, estate-or prime-grade beans to you in half-pound, pound or five-pound bags of “Baba’s Beans.” An order placed from the East Coast on a recent Friday afternoon arrived at its caffeine-deprived owner’s desk the following Monday morning via priority FedEx. Decaf is available—but why? Koa Plantation

Kona Coffee and the Kona Belt

Pure Kona Coffee comes from the Kona Coffee Belt, a stretch of land about 1 mile wide by 30 miles long. According to state regulations, only coffee grown in the Kona Belt can be called Kona Coffee. Coffee grown outside the Kona Belt is Hawaiian, but not Kona Coffee. Get 100% Kona Green Coffee Beans here

How Fresh is Your Coffee?

Did you know coffee has a shelf life? Problem is, it’s not like milk. Old coffee won’t make you sick, it just doesn’t taste as good. Most of the coffee on your grocer’s shelf is far past it’s shelf life. Freshness is why the Koacoffee roast kona coffee when you order it. You’ll taste the difference, and that’s a promise!

The Kona Blend Controversy

Legally, a coffee merchant can mix 10% Kona beans with 90% low quality (cheap) coffee that’s not from Hawaii and call it “Kona Blend.” Which means most Kona Blends are more “not Kona” than Kona. Shocking? As Forbes said, “Don’t be fooled by Kona Blends. Koa Plantation is the real thing.”

100% pure Kona Coffee is roasted to order and packaged in protective foil bags still warm from the roaster. When you open a bag of Koa coffee, you’ll experience the fresh taste and aroma the prize winning Kona coffee is known for.

Environmentally Friendly Kona Coffee!
In 2002, Koacoffee became the first Kona coffee farm in Kona, Hawaii to use a revolutionary wet-processing system that is ecologically and environmentally efficient. This contributes to the many awards the Kona Coffee wins.

Green Coffee Beans

Coffee Review by Sweet Maria’s
Koa Plantation is the Artukovich family farm, at 2,500 feet near the small town of Captain Cook, on the slopes of Mauna Loa volcano, on the Big Island. The farm is unique because they process all their own coffee from start to finish, and have a unique, ecologically efficient wet -processing coffee system.
It’s also notable that they store all their parchment coffee in a climate-controlled warehouse until it is ready to dry-mill, and ship. The thing that impresses me most about this cup is the outstanding body. It’s really quite intense, and after a proper resting (48 hours) it really comes out. It has that soft, sweet “island taste profile”, and despite my skepticism about all our customers who use their pricey Kona in espresso, I must say this makes an awesome shot! I kept the roast at a City + for cupping, and enjoyed the soft nuttiness in the cup, and maple syrup undertones. But taking it a bit darker to a few snaps into second, the milk-chocolate qualities in the cup really emerged, along with a mild black licorice flavor, and gave the taste profile a little more liveliness.

TIP! If you have diabetes or want to lose weight, try Stevia instead of real sugar. Stevia is natural and comes from plants, so that it is going to sweeten without adding extra glucose to your blood and more weight to your body.

Many Americans begin their day with a hot cup of coffee. Whether you get yours from a coffee shop or brew it yourself, you will enjoy that fresh cup of joe. Keep reading to get some great ideas for maximizing your coffee drinking experience.

TIP! To enhance the natural flavors of any type of coffee, try brewing it in a traditional French press. The paper filters used in most coffee makers absorb up the oils from coffee beans.

If you want to make coffee, stir it inside the pot right after it is brewed. Giving it a quick stir helps bring out the coffee’s aroma and flavor. You will have a stronger coffee and a great aroma.

TIP! Stir the coffee in the pot after brewing if you make your own. A fast stir can maximize the flavor of the coffee, as well as its aroma.

Only grind whole coffee beans right before you brew your coffee and no sooner. Coffee might lose its flavor when you store the ground up coffee. Don’t grind your coffee too far ahead of time or you’ll soon be enjoying very weak coffee.

Iced Coffee

TIP! Avoid coffee grounds that have been exposed to pesticides. Coffee beans take on the flavors of the environment in which they are grown.

If you like iced coffee, try brewing strong coffee during the evening and refrigerating it. This lets it have ample time to cool without making it get watered down when it goes over ice. Add the milk and sugar before you chill it. Your iced coffee will be perfect every time.

TIP! Coffee in the freezer has a shelf life of only about three months. Storing it in the freezer longer makes it lose its freshness and flavor.

The most important part of the coffee beverage is the coffee itself. Look at local stores for coffee purchases. Fresh, roasted beans are pretty easy to find. If you live in a small town, consider going online to make this purchase. This may cost more money, but its better than purchasing from a coffee shop.

TIP! Make practice runs with your coffee maker after you first buy one. Always remove any oils and residues left over from the manufacturing process by running a pot of plain water through your new machine.

If you buy some coffee at the cafe it might be pricey, but you can do this every now and again. Most locations offer a wide variety of additions that turn a regular cup of coffee into a much-deserved treat.

TIP! If you like iced coffee, brew coffee in the evening, and chill it in your fridge overnight. That way, you’ll have it on hand when you need it.

Ascertain that you are using the right amount of water when you brew coffee. If you misjudge and have too little, your coffee will have a very strong flavor. However, diluted coffee can be just as disappointing. Who wants watery, weak coffee? One trick to making coffee the right strength is that you should always adjust the amount of coffee grounds based on how much water you are using.

TIP! To get the best flavor from old or economy model coffee machines, brew a pot of hot water prior to brewing coffee. Once the hot water is ready, put the coffee grounds in and return the water to the coffee machine.

Frothing milk for your coffee does not have to be difficult or expensive. Just put a mug of milk into the microwave and heat until it steams. Place a whisk in the cup, and quickly rub the handle back and forth between your palms. Keep going until the milk turns frothy. Avoid using skim milk for this.

TIP! The actual coffee is the most important factor when it comes to taste. Search around at your local area stores.

Everything you’ve read in this article will bring you one step closer to the most delicious drinks possible. You will be able to save money since you won’t have to go out and buy coffee in a shop, and you will feel good knowing that you accomplished something.
