Kona Coffee
Forbes: “Top 10 Coffees in the World”

BEST COFFEE: KOA PLANTATION Saying you’ve had a bad cup of Kona coffee is like saying you’ve seen snow in the Caribbean. This stuff is wonderfully smooth and its lack of a bitter aftertaste makes you think nothing of having that second cup…or third. Just don’t get fooled into buying “Kona blends” that sometimes combine the price tag of the real thing with less than stellar-quality beans from other sources. The genuine article is grown on the Big Island, home of volcanic soil, high elevation and abundant morning sunshine. For the freshest coffee experiences, order from the Koa Plantation in Captain Cook; it’s a family-run operation, situated on the leeward side of Mauna Loa, that will ship its peaberry, estate-or prime-grade beans to you in half-pound, pound or five-pound bags of “Baba’s Beans.” An order placed from the East Coast on a recent Friday afternoon arrived at its caffeine-deprived owner’s desk the following Monday morning via priority FedEx. Decaf is available—but why? Koa Plantation

Kona Coffee and the Kona Belt

Pure Kona Coffee comes from the Kona Coffee Belt, a stretch of land about 1 mile wide by 30 miles long. According to state regulations, only coffee grown in the Kona Belt can be called Kona Coffee. Coffee grown outside the Kona Belt is Hawaiian, but not Kona Coffee. Get 100% Kona Green Coffee Beans here

How Fresh is Your Coffee?

Did you know coffee has a shelf life? Problem is, it’s not like milk. Old coffee won’t make you sick, it just doesn’t taste as good. Most of the coffee on your grocer’s shelf is far past it’s shelf life. Freshness is why the Koacoffee roast kona coffee when you order it. You’ll taste the difference, and that’s a promise!

The Kona Blend Controversy

Legally, a coffee merchant can mix 10% Kona beans with 90% low quality (cheap) coffee that’s not from Hawaii and call it “Kona Blend.” Which means most Kona Blends are more “not Kona” than Kona. Shocking? As Forbes said, “Don’t be fooled by Kona Blends. Koa Plantation is the real thing.”

100% pure Kona Coffee is roasted to order and packaged in protective foil bags still warm from the roaster. When you open a bag of Koa coffee, you’ll experience the fresh taste and aroma the prize winning Kona coffee is known for.

Environmentally Friendly Kona Coffee!
In 2002, Koacoffee became the first Kona coffee farm in Kona, Hawaii to use a revolutionary wet-processing system that is ecologically and environmentally efficient. This contributes to the many awards the Kona Coffee wins.

Green Coffee Beans

Coffee Review by Sweet Maria’s
Koa Plantation is the Artukovich family farm, at 2,500 feet near the small town of Captain Cook, on the slopes of Mauna Loa volcano, on the Big Island. The farm is unique because they process all their own coffee from start to finish, and have a unique, ecologically efficient wet -processing coffee system.
It’s also notable that they store all their parchment coffee in a climate-controlled warehouse until it is ready to dry-mill, and ship. The thing that impresses me most about this cup is the outstanding body. It’s really quite intense, and after a proper resting (48 hours) it really comes out. It has that soft, sweet “island taste profile”, and despite my skepticism about all our customers who use their pricey Kona in espresso, I must say this makes an awesome shot! I kept the roast at a City + for cupping, and enjoyed the soft nuttiness in the cup, and maple syrup undertones. But taking it a bit darker to a few snaps into second, the milk-chocolate qualities in the cup really emerged, along with a mild black licorice flavor, and gave the taste profile a little more liveliness.

TIP! It’s no secret that you will pay more for better quality. Quality coffee beans will cost more, but will make a world of difference in the taste of your coffee.

Do you fancy yourself a coffee aficionado and feel there is nothing more for you to learn? Time to check again. In this article, you will be given tips to not only extend your coffee knowledge, but to also make your next cup the best cup you have ever had.

TIP! While keeping coffee in the freezer can extend its shelf life, you shouldn’t store it for longer than three months. Allowing it to remain there for longer stretches of time will result in diminished quality.

If you drink coffee the right way, it can be quite healthy. Coffee itself is not bad for you. Rather, add-ons, including sweeteners and creams, make it unhealthy. Use almond milk and stevia for a healthy coffee.

TIP! Obviously the coffee beans have everything to do with how your coffee is going to taste. Search around at your local area stores.

Try spicing up coffee for your guests by getting creative. You should try decorating the lattes you make by yourself. You only need some practice in order to learn some simple patterns, including flowers and leaves. This is certain to impress all your guests. Mix melted chocolate and milk so you can practice when you make coffee.

TIP! Buying coffee at a cafe is expensive, but it can be a fun experience on occasion. There are a lot of delicious choices and you can top your treat with whipped cream and chocolate curls, or choose a frothy cup of espresso.

Make sure to mark your coffee before putting it in the freezer so that you do not keep it in there for more than three months. Storing it in the freezer longer makes it lose its freshness and flavor.

TIP! Choose a coffee grinder with conical or flat grinding burrs. They don’t use a large amount of heat.

Buying pre-made coffee or espresso can be a treat that will cost you a bit of cash. There are many tasty options, and you can have your coffee topped off with something sweet, like chocolate curls and whipped cream.

TIP! If you’re sick of having the same boring coffee all the time, try adding some chocolate in your coffee. You will get a nice energy boost and add a delicious flavor.

Don’t reheat your coffee if you’re saving some for later. Buy an insulated mug that keeps your coffee hot for a while. If you cannot do this, just make another pot of coffee.

TIP! You might really want to drink your coffee when you wake up, but resist the urge to do so until the pot has finished brewing. Some machines allow this option, but your coffee quality is going to suffer.

You needn’t store coffee in your freezer. Actually, coffee can often take on smells and flavors from other foods. You should keep your coffee in a place that is dark and where air does not get to it. If you wish to put it in the refrigerator, then make sure it’s kept in sealed freezer bags.

TIP! If you are tired of the same coffee taste, buy flavored creamers. This way that you will not get much contamination from other coffee flavors.

Never keep coffee stored in a container that sits near a stove. Heat is one of the things that can kill the quality of coffee quite easily. Any place in the kitchen near the oven, even the cupboard near it or the counter tops that are close by, should be off limits.

Fair Trade Coffee

TIP! Once your coffee is finished brewing, take it away from the heating element. Leaving the pot in the maker will allow the coffee to keep cooking, which will destroy the flavor entirely.

Drinking fair trade coffee will provide an excellent taste while helping out countries that are still developing. Fair trade coffee may be a little pricier than the more common brands of coffee, however it is also tastier. You will also know that the little farmers from other countries are benefiting from it.

TIP! You shouldn’t drink coffee past 3 in the afternoon. Coffee tastes great, but consuming too much caffeine too close to bedtime could disrupt your sleep cycle.

Put some chocolate in your coffee for an interesting twist. This will provide you with a boost of energy and will taste great, depending on what coffee you choose. If you really want some extra energy, try using dark chocolate coffee.

TIP! If iced coffee is your beverage of choice, then think about putting your French press in your refrigerator over night. The cool temperatures of the refrigerator will make the machine cooler and ready to be used.

As mentioned before, your prior coffee knowledge probably did have a few gaps. You now know how to make great coffee after reading this article. If you’re lucky maybe this advice will even impress people around you.
