Kona Coffee
Forbes: “Top 10 Coffees in the World”

BEST COFFEE: KOA PLANTATION Saying you’ve had a bad cup of Kona coffee is like saying you’ve seen snow in the Caribbean. This stuff is wonderfully smooth and its lack of a bitter aftertaste makes you think nothing of having that second cup…or third. Just don’t get fooled into buying “Kona blends” that sometimes combine the price tag of the real thing with less than stellar-quality beans from other sources. The genuine article is grown on the Big Island, home of volcanic soil, high elevation and abundant morning sunshine. For the freshest coffee experiences, order from the Koa Plantation in Captain Cook; it’s a family-run operation, situated on the leeward side of Mauna Loa, that will ship its peaberry, estate-or prime-grade beans to you in half-pound, pound or five-pound bags of “Baba’s Beans.” An order placed from the East Coast on a recent Friday afternoon arrived at its caffeine-deprived owner’s desk the following Monday morning via priority FedEx. Decaf is available—but why? Koa Plantation

Kona Coffee and the Kona Belt

Pure Kona Coffee comes from the Kona Coffee Belt, a stretch of land about 1 mile wide by 30 miles long. According to state regulations, only coffee grown in the Kona Belt can be called Kona Coffee. Coffee grown outside the Kona Belt is Hawaiian, but not Kona Coffee. Get 100% Kona Green Coffee Beans here

How Fresh is Your Coffee?

Did you know coffee has a shelf life? Problem is, it’s not like milk. Old coffee won’t make you sick, it just doesn’t taste as good. Most of the coffee on your grocer’s shelf is far past it’s shelf life. Freshness is why the Koacoffee roast kona coffee when you order it. You’ll taste the difference, and that’s a promise!

The Kona Blend Controversy

Legally, a coffee merchant can mix 10% Kona beans with 90% low quality (cheap) coffee that’s not from Hawaii and call it “Kona Blend.” Which means most Kona Blends are more “not Kona” than Kona. Shocking? As Forbes said, “Don’t be fooled by Kona Blends. Koa Plantation is the real thing.”

100% pure Kona Coffee is roasted to order and packaged in protective foil bags still warm from the roaster. When you open a bag of Koa coffee, you’ll experience the fresh taste and aroma the prize winning Kona coffee is known for.

Environmentally Friendly Kona Coffee!
In 2002, Koacoffee became the first Kona coffee farm in Kona, Hawaii to use a revolutionary wet-processing system that is ecologically and environmentally efficient. This contributes to the many awards the Kona Coffee wins.

Green Coffee Beans

Coffee Review by Sweet Maria’s
Koa Plantation is the Artukovich family farm, at 2,500 feet near the small town of Captain Cook, on the slopes of Mauna Loa volcano, on the Big Island. The farm is unique because they process all their own coffee from start to finish, and have a unique, ecologically efficient wet -processing coffee system.
It’s also notable that they store all their parchment coffee in a climate-controlled warehouse until it is ready to dry-mill, and ship. The thing that impresses me most about this cup is the outstanding body. It’s really quite intense, and after a proper resting (48 hours) it really comes out. It has that soft, sweet “island taste profile”, and despite my skepticism about all our customers who use their pricey Kona in espresso, I must say this makes an awesome shot! I kept the roast at a City + for cupping, and enjoyed the soft nuttiness in the cup, and maple syrup undertones. But taking it a bit darker to a few snaps into second, the milk-chocolate qualities in the cup really emerged, along with a mild black licorice flavor, and gave the taste profile a little more liveliness.

TIP! Are you content with the coffee dripping machine that you use to make your coffee? Run the machine with just water to let it get hot. When it’s heated the full cup of water, you may begin again with the grounds.

Brewing a perfect cup of coffee may not be as easy as you think. A lot of times, coffee made at home may be too weak, too strong, or overly bitter. The article below will answer some of the questions you have about making great coffee.

TIP! The beans are what determines a blend’s taste. Therefore, try some different blends rather than purchasing your usual blends.

Are you serving coffee to some guests? Think about decorating your lattes. You just need a little time to start achieving floral and heart designs that will delight guests. Use chocolate melted very slowly. Mix it with milk, and then practice with just a few extra minutes each time you make coffee.

TIP! Don’t reheat your coffee if you’re saving some for later. You should buy a thermal mug to keep your coffee in.

Is your dripping machine providing you with satisfactory coffee? A simple way to improve the flavor is to run hot water through it before you make your actual coffee. Once the pot water is heated, do another brew with coffee grinds. That is a great way to clean the machine, too.

TIP! Use water that is pure to get a pure brew from your choice of coffee beans. Keep in mind that every substance that goes into the brew will come out in the final taste.

Those who work from home can use coffee to beat the feeling of cabin fever. Free WiFi is commonly offered at coffee shops, so you can take your laptop and get some work done there. A lot of restaurants also offer WiFi.

Actually Brewing

TIP! Protect the beans if you want to buy coffee in bulk. When fresh beans are exposed to heat or light, they lose some of their own flavor.

Test out your coffee maker before actually brewing any coffee. A trial run involves running water through your machine just like you were actually brewing. That helps get rid of any dust that got into the machine while it was at the store on the shelf.

TIP! Do you find it difficult to get coffee shop quality coffee? Use more coffee. Most specialty houses use 6 ounces of water for every 2 tablespoons of coffee.

Do you need to decrease the amount of sugar that you’re using in your coffee? If so, you have many different alternative methods. Agave nectar does contain sugar, but its low GI means that it won’t cause problems for diabetics. Splenda and stevia are also healthy alternatives to add to hot coffee.

TIP! What’s that funky taste? Have you considered that the source may be the water you’re using to brew your coffee? If you have bad-tasting tap water, think about buying a filter for your faucet. You could also use a pitcher with a built-in filter, or simply brew your coffee using bottled water.

If you like a strong cup of coffee, rich with flavor, consider buying a French press. These types of coffee makers pull out the oils in the coffee beans and deposit them into your drink. In drip brew coffee machines, most of the flavors are absorbed in the coffee filter.

TIP! If you are tired of the same coffee taste, buy flavored creamers. This ensures that you get the cleanest and purest brew from your coffee machine.

Buying a cup or two of coffee in a shop is expensive but it can be a great way to treat yourself. A lot of coffee shops offer tasty coffee drinks, whipped cream included!

Leftover Coffee

TIP! Always practice moderation when drinking coffee. Drinking too much coffee can cause dehydration.

Leftover coffee should never be saved for later and reheated. Keep leftover coffee hot and fresh until you need it by placing it in a thermal mug. If you are unable to do this, make another pot for the best flavor.

TIP! If you find yourself with an extra cup or so of coffee, freeze it in an ice cube tray. Using iced coffee cubes will stop your drink from becoming too watered down and losing flavor.

Choose a coffee grinder with a flat or conical mechanism. If you do, you will find that there is not as much heat created. This will keep the coffee unadulterated. Grinders with blades are inconsistent. Many grinders generate heat and can burn your coffee beans.

As mentioned earlier, it is not easy to make a great cup of coffee all the time. By using this information, you can make the best coffee every time.
